Electronic commerce, commonly known as eCommerce, consists of buying and selling products or services over electronic systems such as the internet or other computer networking systems, and it has many advantages over “traditional shopping” for both consumers and businesses. With e-commerce, The Flower Shop business will flourish with being enabled to stay open all the time and expand customer and geographical reach. Furthermore, eCommerce can potentially reduce costs, and it allows for niche targeting. Three eCommerce platforms that would best suit The Flower Shop and its business goals: Zen Cart, Magento, and osCommerce.

Zen Cart is designed to make online shopping simple for customers and easy for business owners to manage. It is an open source eCommerce shopping program that was built on a foundation of osCommerce, and it provides an easy-to-setup and run online store, and it offers easy administration/product management with working credit card processing out of the box. The program has newsletter and product notification systems to keep customers up to date with product development or business coupons. Furthermore, the Zen Cart program offers an easy upgrade process when it is necessary. One of the major advantages of Zen Cart is that it is free to download. A disadvantage of this system, however, is that time and some technological expertise is required to manage it. In addition, though the download of the product is free, personal hosting and SSL certificate come with a cost. Overall, however, Zen Cart is an efficient and versatile eCommerse platform.

Magento is a feature-rich open source eCommerce application. It provides online merchants with unprecedented flexibility and control over the look, content, and functionality of their eCommerce store. This software is designed to satisfy the customer and consequently maintain a steady flow of eCommerce business. One main advantage of this system is that Magento is mobile commerce and iPhone optimized. It also offers easy to manage marketing promotion tools to enhance business profit and customer satisfaction. Some of these tools include coupons, promotional pricing, and multi-tier pricing. A disadvantage of Magento is that the download, though free, takes up 8.9MB of computer space, almost twice that of Zen Cart. Furthermore, it requires specially configured and high-power hosting.

osCommerce is an eCommerce and online store management system that offers a wide range of out-of-the-box features and enables online stores to be set up fairly quickly with minimal effort. osCommerce provides a catalog frontend and an administrative tool backend which can be easily installed and configured over a web-based installation process. The software is free to download and takes up only 2.2MB of computer space. Advantageous features of osCommerce include automatic web-based installation, unlimited number of products and categories, automatic set-up of eCommerce payment systems, support for dynamic images, printable invoices and packing lists, temporary and permanent shopping carts, and real time shipping quote integration with UPS, USPS, FedEx, etcetera. Disadvantages of this software include no inbuilt way to password protect the administrative area of osCommerce, the program itself is not template driven, customization without a developer may be slow, and it has a limited attribute system.

Although all three of these eCommerce platforms would be appropriate for The Flower Shop to use, osCommerce would be the best program to choose because it is so simple to use and very customer friendly. osCommerce is well-known and widely used. It has a large support community and a long history behind it. It is cost effective. The open source software is free to download and use, and existing code/contributions are also free. Most importantly, osCommerce is easy for the customer to use. The software features a familiar shopping cart model, with a number of ways to access the product catalog. It is a customer focused program because it is easy to use and provides extras such as reviews, newsletters, and email notifications about products. The system is also easy for the administrator to control and manage. osCommerce is customizable and expandable. Consequently, as the business of The Flower Shop expands, it will be simple to add new products or product categories to the catalog. Though customization of the site may be more difficult with osCommerce than with other products, one can obtain basic knowledge about the program and the technology in order to more easily manage the site. These skills are easy to learn if someone has the motivation to learn them. osCommerce, unlike Magento or Zen cart, has a large support community and is widely used. This is because business owners trust the program and are confident in its efficiency. Overall, osCommerce is an online-store management platform that would be perfect to employ as The Flower Shop obtains online business.

Skype Inventory:
Things that are provided in Skype that are not in cell phones is there are video capabilites in Skype. This allows you to see the person you are communicating with as opposed to just talking with them. Skype is free between other people that are using Skype, so as a result you can talk to anyone around the world that is also using Skype for free. There is a cost between other providers and Skype, however. Desktop PCs don't have a built in camera so you would need to buy a camera in order to Skype. Some Laptop PCs have built in cameras, in which case you would not have to buy a camera. Another feature available in Skype is chatting options which is much like texting through the computer. Skype also allows you to take pictures and change the features of the screen. You can manipulate the pictures that are taken. These would be considered advantages.

Advantages to Skype would be the fact that it is free between Skype users, you can see the person you are talking to, you can take pictures, and text with them all that the same time.

Disadvantages of Skype is that the quality is not as good as other technologies. Also, it is dependent on internet services so it often gets bad reception. The video freezes often as well, making it difficult to understand what the other person is saying. Our overall impression of the software is that it is very useful and a good tool for communication, however their can be lag of service and the voice and video quality is not very good. We think it is worth investing in the Skype technology.

This debate is about whether or not video game developers are doing all that is possible to make their products equally playable to all races, skin tones, and genders. One point of contention is that the people who create and design video games are usually white and male and tend to set themselves as the example for the average game player. In addition, game developers must make the games appealing and easy to use for the majority of their clientele--white men. Another point of contention is that the companies and people who make video games simply do not have the technology to make sensors or other game applications to satisfy the needs of people of color.

The site commenters seemed to all agree that the main users of video games today are white males, and in order to survive, companies must appease their needs as consumers.

The points that remain unresolved are whether or not companies are doing all they can to make their games equally accessible to people of color and whites.

Topic: Race and video games update--Animal Crossing and Black College Football

The zombies in each of the previous games have been limp, violent, and disgusting. He argues that no outcries were made when the game included zombies of other races, and there should be no controversy over the zombies being dark skinned and of African origin this time around.

This debate is about whether or not the black zombies featured in the soon to be released Resident Evil 5 game are racially offensive. One point of contention is that in the past, the zombie characters have not been so violent and monstrous, and it is extremelyand unacceptable and inappropriate to have white men heroically destroy people of color though they are portrayed as zombies in the game. The other main point of contention is that the video game always features mutilated, violent zombie and this particular setting in Africa logically suggests that the zombies in Resident Evil 5 should be black.

All commenters seem to agree that the addition of a black protagonist would lessen the tendency to classify the game as racially offensive.

One of the points that remains unresolved is whether or not the black zombies are any different from the other zombies on previous Resident Evil games. Another contentious point with a pending solution or answer is whether or not the black zombies are portrayed too violently or monster-like.

Astraware Ltd. has also published Atomica, Big Box of Blox, and Alchemy. EA Sports has also published Madden NFL 10, Fifa 09, and NBA Street.

This documentary is about the production, interpretation, and imagination of mobile images. It provides insight into mobile photography and filming. Furthermore, this documentary succeeds in proving that moderate quality images do not diminish the experience of shooting and sharing when they are taken by a learned photographer who is creative and industrious.

The free streaming downloads were easier for our group to find than the free legal downloads. Some of the free legal downloading sites required you to have an account, like itunes. Itunes offers certain free downloads every week. Most the music downloading sites we found were not free. The streaming downloading sites on the other hand were usually free and legal. We were already familar with Pandora and LastFM which also made it easier.

The reports offered similar recommendations but they gave different artists. Pandora's recommendations were more similar with each other and there wasn't as much of a variety in the types of music that was played. Pandora allowed you to customize what was played more because you can say what you liked or disliked in the songs that were recommended. Last FM had more of a diverse range of types of music that they said related to the specific artist. Last FM provided more than just playing music but also had comparable artist links and the different albums that the artists had. They were, overall, extremely similar and accomplish the same purpose. The two sites LastFM and Pandora offered similar music recommendations. However, LastFM gave a more diverse list of artists, and its suggestions were for bands that are more obscure. I personally prefer LastFM because I feel like it is a better source for discovering new bands and musical groups that I have never heard of. Pandora radio seems to suggest songs and artists that I like but have already discovered in the past.

Lab Exercise 7

YouTube, Hulu, and Veoh are three popular sites to access and view streaming video. Each has individual characteristics that set it apart from the other two. The first site I visited was Youtube. I have been to this site numerous times in the past and viewed various items such as music videos, trailers, and news/television show/movie clips. This site, unlike the two I explored next, Hulu and Veoh, does not give access to full television show episodes or movies. Furthermore, I occassionally had to wait for the stream to buffer in the middle of the video. The quality of the YouTube videos is not as good as the videos from Hulu and Veoh. Images are often blurry and are pixilated.
Next, I visited Hulu.com, which had a very good selection of television shows and probably the best quality video resolution out of the three websites. Hulu did not, however, have music videos, which is one of the types of videos that I personally look for when browsing the web.
The last site, Veoh, is by far my favorite website for viewing streaming video. The navigational bar at the top of the homepage made searching for and finding the specific media I was looking for extremely simple. Furthermore, the site had a large selection of music videos--they were even organized by genre. Furthermore, all videos on this site had very quick loading times, and the stream did not pause to buffer like on YouTube.

The videos from YouTube and Hulu were very simple to embed. There was a code provided that I copied and pasted to this blog post. Veoh, however, did not have this option. Instead, the site provided a link. With embedding the YouTube video, there were even options available to change the border of the video when it appears on your location site. There were color options like green, gray, and red.
